Amber Watts
Amber provides leadership for our AISD focus group, and is the Policy Manager of Higher Learning. This is our Saturday program for youth of color ages 5 – 18 based in social justice, mentorship, social emotional learning, and community building. Her passion for educating youth of color derives from a lack of support in her own racial identity development as a youth. She is compelled to create spaces in which young people of color are able to discover their voices, and embrace their power.
She is a partner, daughter, friend, sister, and a proud aunt. She works on the Cultural Proficiency and Inclusiveness team as a Restorative Practices Associate with Austin Independent School District (AISD), and is a certified 200 hour yoga teacher. Amber earned her Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at Winston Salem State University, and is currently working towards a M.A. in Expressive Arts Therapy.
